One way...the only way...an audacious claim...how can it be true?
The Nature of Absolute Truth
The problem with truth, provided it is absolute, not multiple conflictive "truths," is that it rules out anything else. Otherwise, it is not absolute. Only one circumstance or truth must rule and explain all.
The Audacious Claim of Christianity
This puts the claim of Christianity into an audacious position. Some propose that absolute truth is not possible, not realizing that this position itself then proposes itself as an absolute truth. The existence of an absolute is unavoidable.
Are Christians Right or Wrong?
Christians alongside a number of other religions, claim to have the correct connection to truth. Questions must be confronted: Who is right? Who is wrong?
Examining the Claims
The first step is to look very closely at the comprehensive claims of this truth. Does the evidence support the claim? And if the claim is that Jesus is the only way to salvation, what is the logic behind it?
God’s Essence: Love
The Christian claim is that God’s core essence of being is love. Nothing proceeds from Him that falls outside of that core being. Every act is one generated by love.
Rebellion Against Love
God's perspective, the Christian truth, is this:
A God of love the creator of the universe made humans in the image of His own being to live in this universe. His intent was to have a loving relationship forever...Humans, endowed with a free will, chose to rebel against God. In doing so, they rebelled against love.
Need for Rescue
So the universe, populated by creatures in the image of God, in a world designed with love principles, was now filled with beings who had rebelled against love. And the sad history of humanity, filled with bloodshed and sorrow, began.
Perfect Rescue Plan
Jesus’ claimed that He was the rescue plan of GOD Himself for this world: one that offers a permanent remedy for the moral crisis of humanity. His actions, the death on the cross and resurrection, provides a perfect rescue. Jesus is the remedy for human guilt, having taken all of man’s punishment upon Himself
Following Absolute Truth
If truth is absolute, rational thinking and logic demands a response. With great effort, it must pursued and followed, wherever it leads. An honest, sincere effort to seek absolute truth will lead to ultimate reality, to God Himself, and to Jesus, God's Son.
An Invitation from Jesus
Jesus is the one who boldly declares, “I am the way, the truth, the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This includes all humanity. Jesus explains, “He who comes to me, I will in no wise cast out…” (John 6:37).
