We must be careful here. Jesus on the cross taught against this thinking. In the middle of the worst suffering, He said, "Father, forgive them, they don't know what they are doing. Just before this, he turned to the thief on the cross and said, "Today you will be with me in paradise." The thief did NOTHING to deserve those words.
1 John 1:9 says "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness".
Acts 4:17 says "Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out."
If you confess your sins and repent, God is faithful to forgive you. Even more, He forgets your sin, as if it never happened.
Hebrews 10:17 - "Then he adds, 'I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.'"
Hebrews 8:12 - "For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
Isaiah 43:25 - “I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins."
So, if you have confessed and asked for forgiveness, guess what? You are forgiven! And if God, the creator of the universe and everything in it, have forgiven you, and forgotten your sin, you are under it's burden no longer. This is true freedom.
